MINDS IN MOTION

A fitness and social program for people living with early-stage dementia or memory loss and thir friends, family members, or care partners. A light exercise session conducted by a certified fitness instructor is followed by activities and social time. The West End Seniors' Network continues to work towards their vision of a Vancouver community that supports and empowers older adults to live involved, healthy and fulfilling lives and to enhance the quality of life of older adults by providing social, recreational, educational and supportive programs and services that foster connection and inclusion in the broader community.

If you share those goals and would like to be more involved in achieving them, plan to attend the WESN's AGM  as they recap the year, look toward next year and hear a special presentation by BC Seniors’ Advocate Isobel Mackenzie.

Each week the WESN presents three movie screenings, ranging from old classics to contemporary productions. Admission by donation includes popcorn -- because what would a movie be without popcorn?

September's screenings include:

Monday Movies featuring "A Sort of Family" on Sept. 10 in which an Argentine doctor faces challenges when she travels to the countryside to pick up an infant she has been waiting to adopt; and "Queen Mimi" on Sept. 24, profiling Marie Haist, a once homeless Los Angeles woman who lives in a laundromat and has befriended celebrities. 

Tuesday Cinema Classics presenting: Ziegfeld Follies (1945) on Sept. 4, with Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, and Lucille Ball; "My Man Godfry" (1936) on Sept. 11 with William Powell and Carole Lombard; Double Wedding" (1937) on Sept. 18 with William Powell and Myrna Loy; and "Mr. Roberts" (1955) on Sept. 25 with Henry Fonda and James Cagney.

Friday Movies with "Julie & Julia" (2009) with Meryl Streep; "A Beautiful Mind" (2001) with Russell Crowe, Ed Harris, and Jennifer Connelly; and "Wild Oats" (2016) with Shirley MacLaine, Jessican Lange, and Demi Moore. There will be no movie Sept. 28 due to the WESN's AGM.

CHAIR YOGA

Chair Yoga is a unique class that modifies yoga postures through the creatie use of a chair. This West End Community Centre class is open for all ages and stages of yoga and movement ability, and is especially suited to those 50 and better. Instructor Sandra Leigh.
