THE DRAGON'S PEN

Team sports are still on at King George — with necessary precautions.

KING GEORGE TEAMS & CLUBS
Participants needed!

King George has many great clubs and sports teams this year despite the ongoing pandemic. Social and physical distancing protocols will be maintained.

Basketball Teams : A “Life of Ball” or “LOB” as we call it at KG, is waiting for you with each grade (apart from senior students) having its own b-ball team. The season will look different this pandemic year and has not been finalized. But in the meantime, grade coaches are holding practices. For more information, speak to Coach Darko Kulic, at the West End Community Centre

Student Council: Love politics? Inspired by the recent provincial election? Have your voice heard by running for student council this year. Plan school events such as Spirit Week as well as improving your school and getting to know teachers! For more information speak to Mr. Deblasio or anybody at the office.

Teen Hockey: The West End Children’s Hockey Society (WECHS) provides ice time for teens looking to play Canada’s other national sport. For beginners or veterans!

We play on select Fridays at 10:30 p.m. Full gear is required but don’t let that be a deterrent. WECHS can help find you the right equipment. The cost to play is by donation.

Winter Sports Club: The KG Winter Sports Club strives to provide as many skiing and snowboarding opportunities through the school year as possible. It is aiming to hit the hills every Tuesday and Thursday along with some weekends, weather dependent of course.

Bus fare along with a ski pass or day ticket for Grouse Mountain is required along with the needed equipment (including helmets). For more information, please message @MilanYVR on Instagram.

A prominently placed roster of former King George students commemorates those who served.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

On November 11 we remember all the fallen soldiers that died in many wars and events. But one thing that is often overlooked is the many students who bravely fought for Canada in the two World Wars, risking their lives to fight for the rights and freedoms we have today.

In the King George foyer there is a plaque honouring all the school’s students who put on a Canadian uniform. Every year, it’s a great idea to read some of the names of these patriotic students and think back about the sacrifice they made.

King George’s auditorium is often used as a polling station for federal, municipal, and as in last month provincial elections.

INTO THE ARCHIVES

This months’ Into the Archives photo is of the 2019 federal election voting location at King George.

KG was also a voting place for October’s provincial election, despite concerns from the B.C. Teachers Federation about COVID-19.
