WEST END PAINT & HARDWARE
A Community Anchor For 30 Years

West End Paint & Hardware at 835 Bidwell (just south of Robson) has been the West End’s go-to supplier for home reno and maintenance needs for 30 years.

The store first opened in 1990 as a branch of The Little Hardware Store on Davie, which was owned by Jim Sandborn who had set up shop in the mid-80s. Jim partnered with Bruce Day and Stephen Brown to open the Bidwell branch. By 2000, when rising rents obliged the Davie shop to close, Bruce and Stephen took over the Bidwell location and rebranded under the current name.

Bruce, a former welder and truck driver, and Stephen who had previous retail experience, already had a pretty good grasp on the nuts and bolts of the business and have become the neighbourhood authorities on everything from mixing and matching paint colours to what widget or gizmo will do the best job for you.

“It’s been a good run and we’re looking forward to serving our community for many years to come” said Bruce. “And for the record, I could never have done this without Jim and Stephen.”
