Western Gold Theatre presents playwright Caryl Churchill’s acclaimed new work, a fantasy intricately wired to current politics that offers an actually female view of the apocalypse.  At once intimate and vast, domestic and wild, the play finds four women chatting in a garden and unleashing their secret selves in extraordinary monologues. The effect is like looking at a sexually reversed photo of world leaders.

The Classical Concert Series presents Trio Primario, featuring Jeff Pelletier on flute, Julie Begg on clarinet, and Danielle Marcineck on piano. The Vancouver-based trio is known for their wonderfully crafted chamber music concerts mixed with their own unique brand of witty banter and repartee. Their performances leave audiences with smiles on their faces and a song in their hearts.

Classical guitarist Cuneyt Tirmandi will be at Barclay Manor Wednesday mornings.

“Music hath charms to soothe a savage breast” according to 17th century poet William Congreve, and few musical styles do so as completely as classical guitar. Starting on Wednesday November 6, come to Barclay Manor to enjoy a repertoire of classical guitar played by Cuneyt Tirmandi. Cuneyt studied classical guitar at the Mount Royal Conservatory in Calgary and under renowned Argentinian guitarist Analia Rego in Buenos Aires. Wednesday’s Musical Mornings will now soothe your soul and calm your mind.

The lineup for November includes:

Wednesdays (8 - 10 p.m.): 70s favourites with Taylor James (Nov. 6 & 13); jazz/pop with Quickness (Nov. 20); and acoustic guitar with Silk & Steel (Nov. 27).

Thursdays (8 - 10 p.m.): Jazz crooner Bobby Bacchus (Nov. 7); jazz and vintage pop with Angela Verbrugge (Nov. 14); roots and blues with Harris & DeBray (Nov. 21); and roots and acoustic pop with Melanie Dekker (Nov. 28).

Sundays (7 - 9 p.m.): Swing and country blues with The Skillet Lickers (Nov. 3); bebop jazz with WestCoast Charisma (Nov. 10); blues, jazz, and roots with The Kasuals (Nov. 17); and vocal jazz with Slinki (Nov. 24).

SAMBA FUSION

Fridays & Saturdays at Rio Brazilian Steakhouse (1122 Denman). Samba Fusion is a Vancouver-based Dance Company, whose roots are based in Brazilian Samba, fused with numerous dance styles, music and rhythms. This Multicultural Dance Group performs several styles of dance fusion including: Brazilian Samba, Forró, Samba Reggae, Afro- Brazilian, Hip Hop, African, Polynesian and Burlesque.
